For Immediate Release
7 November 2001
(Hong Kong - 7 November 2001) PUC Founder (MSC) Berhad ("PUC Founder"), an associated company of Founder Holdings Limited (SEHK: 418) in Malaysia, recently held an official launch of its FingerTecTM-601 product ("FingerTec"), a fingerprint-based attendance and access control system developed by PUC Founder. At the launch, not only did PUC Founder appoint JMC Founder Pte Ltd and Bricomp Industry Sdn Bhd to distribute FingerTec respectively in Singapore and Malaysia, but also they sealed a contract of RM300,000 (approximately USD77,000) with a Singaporean company, Solution Resources Asia Pte Ltd.
Being the first Malaysia-made biometrics security product, FingerTec is the outcome of research and development funded by the Malaysian government's Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) grant scheme. Functioning to monitor access, FingerTec provides security control based on the algorithm concept where points or minutiae from fingerprints are captured, registered, calculated and compared (to the registered fingerprints) to produce exclusive identification of users, as long as live fingerprints are used together with pre-assigned user IDs. FingerTec also provides attendance control based on the "you are you" concept, eliminating workplace "buddy-punching" occurrences. Besides, FingerTec helps to reduce costs through substituting use of other security devices, such as swipe cards or keys. Each FingerTec device comes with the initial storage memory of 1,000 user IDs with two fingerprints for each user ID; memory for each device can be expanded to 10,000 users.
Besides finished products, PUC Founder also supplies FingerTec on OEM basis, enabling other equipment manufacturers and system integrators to develop their own fingerprint products. In addition, PUC Founder expects to penetrate the global market through its subsidiary, namely, FingerTec Worldwide Sdn Bhd.
"According to the latest Biometric Industry Research conducted by Elsevier Science UK," revealed Managing Director of PUC Founder, Mr Teh Hon Seng, "the world's biometric growth is forecasted to swell exponentially to reach a total turnover of USD1.5billion in 2003 and, among all biometric methods, such as fingerprint, iris, voice and palm, fingerprint is forecasted to account for 50% of the entire growth."
